The Jamaican and American Association of Buffalo (JAAB), formed in 1989, is organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes. JAAB is dedicated to the advancement of education, healthcare delivery and cultural awareness.
As the new president of JAAB, I am honored and delighted to serve this 28-year-old organization. I am thankful to serve this great organization whose commitment to Buffalo and Jamaica has stood the test of time. Although 2015 proved to be the most challenging year for JAAB with the death of its beloved co-founder Charles L. Anderson, Sr., MD, those of us left to mourn his loss and deal with the great void of his enthusiasm understand that his spirit has been propelling us to continue the work that was started in 1989. Therefore, let’s not tarry, we must hastily pursue the vision and mission of JAAB with passion and commitment as we forge ahead together to fulfill our mission and meet any challenges that may await us.
The Board’s major priorities for the upcoming year includes the support of Western New York Stem program in collaboration with the University of the West Indies and BJIE (Buffalo Jamaica Innovation Enterprise); the awarding of scholarships to Buffalo students and students in our sister city, St. Ann, Jamaica; the donation of medical equipment to St. Ann’s Hospital in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica.
I am especially excited that our Niagara Falls members will coordinate our annual boat ride on July 21, 2018. The annual Taste of Jamaica date will be announced shortly.
Our membership renewal and new membership drive will begin in January 2018.
There is no doubt that throughout the years, JAAB’s achievements have been great, nevertheless, there is still work to be done. To ensure that the work continues and our future goals are realized, we invite you to jump in with boundless passion and commitment to realize our goals for the future.
Once again, I feel privileged to have the opportunity to write the next chapter for this wonderful organization.
